How to use the trainer effectively
This trainer is designed to give you short, focused pronunciation and listening workouts. Here is a simple routine you can follow to get the best results.
1. Choose your mode
- Minimal pair only: you hear a sentence and choose between similar-sounding chunks. Perfect for quick, focused practice and for beginners with minimal pairs.
- Whole sentence: you hear a sentence and then select every word in the correct order. You still practise minimal pairs, but also train detailed listening and memory.
2. Pick the right difficulty
- Easy: only the easiest pairs. Good if you are just starting or feel insecure about English sounds.
- Intermediate: easy + intermediate pairs. Ideal for most learners who already have some experience.
- Difficult: all pairs, including the most challenging ones. Perfect for advanced students and teachers.
You can change the difficulty and mode at any time in the Settings menu inside the app.
3. Use good audio
- Wear headphones if possible to hear the contrasts clearly.
- Make sure the volume is comfortable, not too low or too high.
- Try to practise in a quiet environment.
4. Let yourself make mistakes
When you choose the wrong option, the trainer:
- Shows you the correct sentence and the confusing sentence.
- Highlights the chunks with different sounds.
- Replays the audio so you can listen again with full attention.
This is not a failure – it is an opportunity to train your ear exactly where it is weak. The system will also bring those difficult sentences back later so you can check your progress.
5. Keep sessions short and regular
- Practise for 5–15 minutes per day rather than once a week for an hour.
- Stay focused; avoid doing other tasks at the same time.
- Stop when you feel tired, and come back another day.
6. Combine with speaking practice
After a listening session, try to repeat some of the sentences out loud. Focus on exaggerating the sound difference in the minimal pair. You can:
- Record yourself and compare with the audio.
- Work with a teacher and show them the sentences you find difficult.
- Use the same contrasts when you speak in real conversations.
Used regularly, this trainer becomes a powerful tool to unlock fast spoken English and stop confusing words that “sound the same” to you.
